    It's been awhile... too long!
    Hi Victoria,

It's been almost a year since I last shared a journal entry with you, and that is simply way too long. My goal is to go back and update the past 22 months with all your milestones: important dates, list of "firsts", and funny moments that have kept your mommy and me smiling. I know the entries won't be as detailed as they should be, but hopefully you'll appreciate the highlights. This is my promise to you... and for someone as important as you, I must keep my promises.

    I love you so much!

    Oklahoma
    Hi Pookie,

Yesterday you flew with mommy on your third airplane trip in the first 9 months of your life. Mommy's friend from high school, Katie, is getting married and your mom is a bridesmaid in the ceremony. Right now, you are in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, just north of Tulsa. Oklahoma is the third state you've visit, outside of California and Texas of course. Three down, 47 more to go! Mimi and Papa drove all the way from Houston to spend the weekend with you... and mommy too, but they REALLY needed a Victoria fix! You grow up so fast, changing every single day, and they only get to see you ever couple months. That's too long for grandparents... too long for anyone who loves you! And trust me, there are a lot of people who love you. I wonder how many presents Mimi and Papa have for you? Mommy's suitcase was heavy to begin with... maybe she'll have to buy another one in Oklahoma! Last night was the third night I spent without you, and it's not too much fun. I caught myself playing with some of your toys... and realized I liked them even more than you do. I almost turned on Clifford and Curious George this morning because I missed watching their shows! I talked to you in Dallas and Tulsa last night, and you sounded pretty tired. Mommy praised you for being a good little flyer though! That's my girl. I miss your smile, and your hair pulling, you hugs and kisses, and reading you bedtime stories. I miss everything about you, and mommy too! It's awfully quiet here without you and mommy... but you'll be back soon. Keep an eye out for her, OK? I am going to sleep late and have nice long dreams of "my girls" coming back safe and sound.

Your dad loves you, no matter what state (or state of mind) you are in! Remember that.

    Love ya,
    Daddy

    St-St-St-Stages
    Lil Bit,

Another food milestone today... Stage 3 baby food! Mommy fed you a jar for lunch and daddy fed you one for dinner. Slowly but surely, your tasty vittles are starting to look and feel like real human food! Not sure about the taste, though... you let me know, okay? You also have started your love affair with Cheerios, as well as the multi-flavored Gerber Puffs. My favorite is when they get stuck on your finger or on your cute little face and you can't find where them went! Soon you'll be gnawing on steak with your momma.

    Yours,
    Dad

    Doctor Doctor Gimme Some News
    Victoria,

It was "doctor visit" day, but luckily for you AND me there were no shots involved! Just a check up, which you passed with flying colors. You weigh 19 lbs, 14 ozs and are in the 88%, up from 75% at your last visit. With yours truly being a giant, what did you expect!!! Keep growing Lil Roo, but don't grow too quickly.

    Lots of love,
    Daddy

    Baby Girl,

Today mommy fed you your first table food -- some frozen mixed vegetables. And yes, we did heat them up first! You played with them as much as you ate them, but you're off on the right track to liking your veggies. That's my girl!

    Happy 3/4 Year Birthday!
    Victoria,

Today you turned 9 months old, which is a pretty big landmark in your young life. Time is flying by faster than one could ever imagine, but you give us so much to celebrate that we remain ever excited by what the next day will bring. In three months, we'll throw you the 1st birthday party to end all 1st birthday parties! Don't worry, we'll take pictures.

    Your First Easter Sunday
    Victoria,

Today we celebrated your first Easter Sunday. In the morning, we went to church to thank God for giving His son for us and for our salvation. We visited the Church of the Incarnation, a Catholic community, for the first time and the service was nice and featured a children's choir. Of course, there were people standing in the aisles because Easter is one of those days everyone goes to church!

Afterwards, we drove to Malibu for Easter Brunch. We have gone to Callender's for the past seven years, but we thought we'd spice it up and try Duke's instead. It was delicious, by the way, we definitely made the right choice. Uncle Mike and Uncle Brady were there, along with Aunt Kristin, Aunt Michelle, Uncle Phillip, Aunt Serina, Uncle David, plus Miss Nicholette and Mr. Brian who met you for the first time. We sat at a table looking out over the ocean. Even though it was an overcast day, it was breathtaking. After we ate, and ate, and ate, we went back to Aunt Kristin's house to play boardgames with Lulu. We went over last night too, to dye eggs and eat a red velvet bunny cake that Miss Kristin and Miss Michelle made especially for us.

The highlight of Easter Sunday was seeing you in your all-too-adorable Easter dress. Plus those blue eyes of yours are the perfect accessory! You are one of God's special blessings and today was a celebration of just how blessed we are to have you in our lives. God is great!

    Love always,
    Daddy

    Victoria's Christmas - Day 5
It's Christmas Day and Santa brought you and your Riepe cousins some wonderful things. You got a baby doll ("Dolly") who is soft and smells like baby powder. You also got a LeapPad Baby, a computer that will help you learn and grow up to be one smart cookie! You also got some cool Elmo DVDs, which I'm sure you'll be watching for a long time to come. Your cousins got lots of cool stuff too, including a giant yellow motorized car! Yellow is Sarah's favorite color, you know. We had a delicious breakfast and then got dressed for the day. We were joined by Mimi, Papa, Maw Maw, and our friend Cat (the Rockette!) and we opened the rest of the Christmas gifts. There was wrapping paper here, and bows over there. Such fun! After playing with the presents, we sat down for one of the best meals I've ever had. Everything was scrumptious. We played for the rest of the afternoon and then got ready to drive across town to Gramma's house for Christmas dinner. Yes, we do love to eat during the holidays! At Gramma's, we were joined by Aunt Mary Lou and your Uncle Thomas and the Tucker cousins. We unveiled MORE presents and did MORE eating and laughed and played until we just couldn't keep our eyes open any longer. It was the perfect first Christmas for our little Angel.

    My first real food!
    Victoria,

Earlier this morning, you took one giant step for babykind. No, you didn't take your first "step", but you did take your first bite of rice cereal. It's your first human food, aside from mommy's milk and water. We strapped you into your high chair (thanks David Sieden), put on your Baby Einstein four seasons bib, and mommy fed you while daddy videotaped and took regular photos at the same time. You really liked it, but we need to work on the swallowing part. Most of the food ended up on the bib or, somehow, between your bib and your outfit! We look forward to trying some more tomorrow. Keep on growin', little one!

    Love,
    Daddy

    Hold On!
    Baby Girl,

You are such a good little eater, whether it's from mommy or from your bottle. Even though you've always been a busy bee while eating, trying to grab the bottle from my hands or knock it on the floor when you get really excited, today was your first day of "officially" holding the bottle all by yourself. Mommy was on duty when it happened, and she and I are both very proud of you. We start rice cereal soon, which means you are growing up mighty fast.

    Dad

    Passing The Cup
    Hi Lil Roo:

Today, Mommy thought it would be a good idea to try a sippy cup of water. You loved holding it (although you needed some help in that area) and you loved sucking on the top, but you were foiled by the fancy no-spill sippy cup technology! You tried and tried to get the water out, but it was a little too difficult. We'll keep trying. You sure did look cute trying though.

    Love ya,
    Pops

    Happy New Year
    Victoria,

Welcome to 2007, and the second half of your first year on the Earth! It's been a sweet ride so far, and your mommy and I are ready for more. Last night, you were out like a light at 8:45PM (no champagne toast for you!) and your mom followed soon after, leaving daddy to venture to Aunt KStark's New Year's Party solo. We'll chalk it up to jet lag, considering we just flew back in from our Christmas in Texas yesterday morning. We also spent a little extra time at the airport dealing with Southwest Airlines over the loss of Big Blue (Mimi and Papa's oldie-but-goody suitcase). Big Blue managed to bring back all your holiday presents safe and sound, but he ripped on the conveyor belt because someone put him on there the wrong way. Accidents happen! We now get to spend the day unpacking all our cool stuff, uploading pictures on Kodak Gallery and sharing them with family and friends, and catching up on our sleep.

    Love,
    Your Daddy

    Victoria's Christmas - Day 4
It's Christmas Eve, which means Santa Claus visits tonight! We sent him express instructions where to drop off your presents, because we knew we'd be in Houston and not Glendale. Tonight we went to dinner with Uncle Chris' family, thanks to an invite from his sweet mother Dee. It was the annual Christmas Eve tradition at the Brownstone, and it was the first time we were able to make it. The food was quite good, and it was fun introducing you to the extended family. Everyone commented on how beautiful your dress was, and they were all mesmerized by those piercing blue eyes! After dinner, Uncle Bud joined us at church at St. Mark's Episcopal (the church daddy was baptized at and confirmed too!). Gramma, Uncle Thomas and your cousins, Brendon, Ashlynn, Hayden, and Forrest were there as well to praise Jesus on the eve of his birthday. After church, we drove to Aunt Elizabeth's house and waited for the pitter patter of reindeer hooves on the roof. Santa was on his way!

    Victoria's Christmas - Day 3
On our first full (awake) day in Houston, we spent most of the it trying to concoct the perfect plan for visiting Galveston and the Festival of Lights at Moody Gardens. We finally made it on the road with Mimi, Papa, Mommy, Uncle Bud, you and me in one car and Uncle Chris, Aunt Elizabeth, and your cousins, Sarah, Rebecca, and Thomas, in the other car. When we got there, we had a visit with Santa, ate a pretzel, explored the Rainforest Pyramid in the dark, and then ventured on a golf cart tour of the Festival of Lights. It was so much fun! We took lots of pictures and made it back to our cars just before the rain came down. Afterwards, we went out to Landry's for a seafood meal (trust us, it's the best!) and then drove home. More fun tomorrow, on Christmas Eve!

    Victoria's Christmas - Day 2
We were greeted by Mimi and Papa in the early morning hours after the flight. No matter how late it was, they were staying up to see you! They took turns hugging and kissing you, playing pass the baby with precision, as we ate a late night snack and tried to turn on the afterburners to stay awake. When we eventually crashed, you and mommy woke up California time while daddy slept in until 1PM! We just kind of relaxed the rest of the day, unpacked our things the best we could, and spent quality time together.

    Victoria's Christmas - Day 1
We left Los Angeles International Airport at 6:45PM tonight en route to Houston Hobby Airport. When we arrived at the airport, the line to check in was pretty darn long. Once we got checked in and the bags cleared through security, we hung out and played while mom grabbed dinner. The flight was delayed for an hour or so, and you were ready to sleep! We wanted to keep you busy until the plane took off, and we did a pretty good job... except you were really hungry. We all got seated (in the first row of the plane - pre-boarding is the best!) and then we sat... for an hour... while they figured out why there was an extra passenger on board! Crazy, eh? You flirted with the passengers and the flight attendants while passing the time. Once we took off, you ate and then fell asleep on your mommy's lap. Such a good little traveled! By the time we landed in Houston, Uncle Bud was waiting for us and it was already Day 2!

    Baby First: Crawling!
    Miss V,

Today was on one of the biggest milestones in your young little life: you crawled for the first time! You've spent the past few months rolling and rolling, trying to manuever on the downstair play mat. But today, you advanced from pulling the blanket towards you to grab a toy to crawling to it! We couldn't be more proud. Slow and steady for now -- we know soon enough you'll be impossible to catch.

Welcome to the World, Victoria Elaine Tucker!
Today at 12:18PM, on July 14, 2006, you were born! Happy Birthday, Victoria. You were 9 pounds, 1 ounce, 19 1/2 inches long, and looked just like I did when I was born -- except much cuter. Dr. Schmones and his team did an amazing job helping God bring you into this world. We are truly blessed this day to have you as our daughter. Mommy is doing very well and will be staying with you in the hospital for a few nights. Mimi made it just in time to be with daddy in the operating room to say "hello" for your first moments of life. You came out with bright red skin and this sweet little baby cry. I watched you (with digital camera and video camera in either hand) while Mimi stayed with you mom. They examined you, cleaned out your mouth to make sure you were able to breath okay, and let daddy "cut the cord." You past all your tests with flying colors! Before they put you in a warmer, they brought you over to mommy so she could see you. We have never been happier in our entire lives!

I followed you down to the nursery, and you got to ride in this spaceship-looking heated incubator with a bubble on top! You were so well behaved. You didn't cry at all. You looked calm and serene, and I was so proud. I stood by while they measured you and weighed you, then they did more tests (A+ student!). At one point, you gripped on to the side of the bassinet you were in and didn't want to let go! That was right before the nurse gave you your first bath. It was then that we heard the full potential of those lungs! You were given your first diaper and finally took your first nap. I just couldn't stop staring at you. It was love at first sight!

Nancy Comess was your first visitor, and she took pictures and called our California friends to tell them the good news. A few hours later, we were still waiting for a clean bassinet to bring you up to Mommy's room so she could hold you for the first time. In between phone calls to Grandma Kathy, Grandad Gary, Uncle Thomas, your great grandmother Tookie, your great grandaunt Tia, and all our friends and family, I came in and checked on you. Finally, the nurses let me sit in the rocker and really hold you for the first time. Just then on the radio, a song started playing called "The Riddle" by Five for Fighting. I will always remember this moment for the rest of my life, and this song will represent the peak of my happiness on this earth.

Four hours after you were born, they dressed you in a white outfit and together we traveled in the elevator to mommy's room. This is where we are sleeping for the next few days! Nurse Maryann swaddled you and placed you into mommy's arms. Mommy kissed you a zillion times, and held you tightly. When I finally got to hold you again, you lifted your head up! That is quite a feat for babies who are months old, nevertheless hours. I guess being a breach baby made you super strong.

We had some other special visitors on your first day of life: "Uncle" Mike Ferree, "Uncle" Chris Prouty, and "Aunt" Hara Melillo, plus some of my Disney co-workers. It's now time to get back to the hospital to take care of "my girls."

    Love you, baby!
    DADDY
